Garrard
receives first CAS Legacy Award
Professor Mary Garrard, art, College of Arts and Sciences, was
the first recipient of the CAS Legacy Award. Dean Kay Mussell
presented the award to Garrard in recognition of outstanding
contributions in the classroom and to the lives of American University
Students at the Deans Breakfast, a reunion event,
last Saturday, Oct. 19.
Garrard received the most nominations by alumni for the professor
who had the greatest influence on their academic and professional
lives. One nominator wrote, It is almost impossible to communicate
how privileged I feel that I had the opportunity to study under
the direction of Dr. Mary Garrard during my time as an MA student
at American University. She provided me with endless wisdom and
encouragement and her constant demand for excellence challenged
me to do the best work I am capable of. Dr. Garrard leads by example
. . . in her own scholarship . . . inspiring her students . .
. Dr. Garrard is an extraordinary teacher.
