Tania Angstadt of Bon Appetit knows the way to a student’s heart runs directly through his sweet tooth.

Angstadt spent three days assembling a gingerbread train, which highlighted the Winter in Candy Land event last Thursday at the Terrace Dining Room. The confection connoisseur made the dough from scratch and pieced together the sugary sweet locomotive using lots of icing and candy. No detail was overlooked—including the snow, fashioned from coconut.

During the holiday feast, students munched on gingerbread cookies, cupcakes, ginger shrimp, eggnog, and apple cider glazed ham, served up by Bon Appetit employees dressed as characters from Candy Land, like Mr. Mint and Gramma Nutt. Students also enjoyed raffles and a screening of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory during dinner.

As for the gingerbread train, Angstadt said it will be on display during Wednesday’s holiday reception for faculty and staff—“if it lasts that long!” —AF
