Democratic partnership announced
A new partnership between American University’s Center for Democracy and Election Management and the Washington-based Council for a Community of Democracies will provide AU with new opportunities to expand research, courses, and work on democratization in the world.

AU students will now have two paid internship positions with CCD, and staff or board members from CCD will teach courses on democratization at AU.

“By bringing together the first university-based center focused on democracy and election administration with a nongovernmental organization like CCD we have opened new opportunities for our students and faculty and enhanced our ability to contribute to the global democratic process,” said Robert Pastor, director of CDES and vice president of international affairs at AU.

Library won’t close until Saturday
The students asked, and the administration listened.

Responding to student-fueled requests to keep the library open 24 hours a day during finals, University Librarian Patricia Wand announced Thursday that beginning today at 8 a.m., the library will remain open until Friday at midnight.

“The students requested 24-hour access and the Student Confederation helped make it happen by contributing financially,” Wand said. “Student input is vital to the library, and I am pleased that the students worked so diligently with the library to achieve this goal.”

Students entering the building between midnight and 8 a.m. will be required to present their AU IDs. Users also must sign-in and sign-out at the information desk.

The library service desks, including circulation, copy center, reserves, periodicals, interlibrary loan, and media services will remain open until midnight during study days. The reference desk will close at 10 p.m. Between midnight and 8 a.m., the information desk will be staffed. For those who want to borrow materials the self check-out machine, located by the circulation desk, will be available.

Group study rooms and the graduate study room remain available when the building is open. The Anderson Computing Complex (ACC) is open 24 hours, Sundays at 8 a.m. until Fridays at midnight. ACC is open 8 a.m. until midnight on Saturdays.
