AU Abroad numbers are on the rise

The number of AU students studying abroad has increased by 65 percent in the past three years, from 497 during 2001–02 to this year’s projected 887 students. AU is now ranked twelfth for estimated undergraduate participation in study abroad among the top 20 doctoral and research institutions.

AU is also close to joining the small number of campuses with more than 1,000 students abroad—most of which are huge state institutions, such as the University of Texas at Austin (which had 1,654 students abroad last year) and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (with 1,377), according to the Open Doors Report on International Education Exchange released Nov. 15.

In addition to the 15 AU Abroad sites offered in 2001, there are 33 additional sites from which students can choose, from Ghana to Australia to Ireland.
