| Two AU seniors named Rhodes finalists
Seniors Kyle Taylor and Forrest Dunbar have been named finalists for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, while alumna Natalie Hand is a finalist for the British Marshall Scholarship. Taylor, who’s double majoring in international relations and interdisciplinary studies, and Dunbar, an international studies and economics major, participated in mock interviews with the Office of Merit Awards this week to prepare for the final round of interviews on Thursday and Friday. Dunbar will travel to Seattle for his interview, while Taylor flies to San Francisco for his. Winners of the Rhodes Scholarship, which offers full funding for two to three years of intense graduate study at Oxford University, will be announced the week of Nov. 21. Hand, a 2004 graduate of the School of International Service and founder of the nonprofit organization Institute for Kurds, had her final interview last week. Winners of the British Marshall Scholarship, which covers two to three years of graduate studies at a British university, will be announced this week. “These are such competitive scholarships that just making it to the finals is a tremendous honor,” said Office of Merit Awards director Paula Warrick. “Out of 1,000 to 1,200 applicants, only a handful make it to this stage.” Reserve Dec. 14 for the Faculty-Staff Holiday Party
