AU staff celebrated during annual event

A barbecue, volleyball tournament, and arts and crafts showcase highlight Staff Appreciation Week, May 22 to 26. The annual event celebrates staff members’ achievements, service, creativity, and talent—not to mention, their mean volleyball skills.

On Thursday, May 25, staff are invited to sport T-shirts and tennis shoes for the annual volleyball tournament, from 8 a.m. to noon on the quad. The deadline for team registration is May 15; the winning team will be announced during the picnic and will receive the coveted trophy.

For those who prefer to exercise their minds, there will be a chess tournament on the quad, from 9 a.m. to noon. Staff can also enjoy a variety of board games.

The staff showcase, featuring fine art, crafts, and short films, runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bender Arena lobby, while the cultural diversity festival, featuring music, clothing, and art from around the world, runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the amphitheater.

The day also includes a barbecue lunch, from noon to 2 p.m. After enjoying burgers and watermelon slices, staff are encouraged to drop off donations for the business clothing drive, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the amphitheater.

For a complete list of events, log on to www.american.edu/staffappreciation. Or, contact staff.appreciation@american.edu or 885-2591.
