More than three dozen SPA students were inducted into the country’s only political science honor society, Pi Sigma Alpha, last Monday. The 37 students entered the 86-year-old organization by maintaining a 3.5 GPA through 60 credit hours of political science and government courses. According to SPA professor Steven Taylor, the faculty advisor to AU’s Pi Sigma Alpha chapter, the honor—in addition to adding a few more Greek letters of distinction to the students’ résumés—will arm them with extra-credit points on future civil service exams.

Taylor’s graduate teaching assistant Peter Brusoe, who helped organize the event and is a Pi Sigma Alpha member himself, noted other benefits as well. “It’s a great conversation piece,” he said. “When you meet members from other schools, you immediately have something in common, so there’s a real social networking benefit . . . Plus, it gives us a chance to recognize the great work our undergraduates are doing around here.” —MU
