When 34 members of the Smithsonian Journeys program recently came from across the country to visit Washington’s art galleries, they couldn’t leave without a stop at the Katzen Arts Center. Though their tour, which also included the National Gallery of Art, the Kreeger Museum, and the Philips Collection, focused on Cezanne (whose paintings weren’t on display at the Katzen), Smithsonian Journeys program director Cheryl Lytle included the AU Museum as an important stop for anyone interested in art in the capital. “I thought, well here’s a new site that people should know about,” she said. “It made for a very nice ending to a busy day of art.” Local art historian, William Kloss led the tour, stopping occasionally to discuss such highlights as Roy De Forest’s The Dual World of Alfred Katz, above, from the Collection of H. Marc Moyens. —MG
