Farmer-delivered, fresh produce program may arrive on campus in June
More than 150 varieties of fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs soon could be available to the AU community every week. The university plans to begin a community supported agricultural program, in which a family-owned West Virginia farm will offer members 20 weeks of produce for $460.

For that fee members will receive an average of three-quarters of a grocery bag full of vegetables each week from June through October. Included will be tomatoes, squash, zucchini, herbs, and much more.

“Fresh produce can be really difficult to find in stores,” said Riley Neugebauer, AU’s environmental coordinator. “You’re supporting the local economy and the family farm. It’s sort of a romantic idea to still do that. It gives people a better idea of where their food is coming from.”

Produce will be picked up at a set time each week at a still undetermined campus location. A representative from the farm is scheduled to hold an information session here later this month. For more information, contact Neugebauer at 885-3757.
