Technology training roster expanded

Did you make a New Year’s resolution to upgrade your technical skills? If so, e-operations would like to remind people that it’s not too late. Three new courses have been introduced to our technology training roster: Microsoft OfficeGraphics, Macromedia Dreamweaver Boot Camp, and Web Publishing. These classes were designed to provide the valuable tools that computer users need to quickly master the ability to design, manage, and publish Web pages and to enhance printed materials with professional-quality graphics.

Macromedia Dreamweaver Boot Camp is the first day-long workshop in a series that will take a comprehensive look at a complete set of software skills. Participants who walk in the door with little or no experience will leave with the knowledge and practice to utilize important features of the Dreamweaver program. It’s still possible to attend three-hour workshops on Dreamweaver, but the new boot camp format will enable participants to concentrate on quickly acquiring new skills.

Microsoft Office Graphics is a three-hour course designed to equip participants with the skills to create and manipulate images in Microsoft Office. It is a class intended for people who are already familiar with software like Microsoft Word or Microsoft PowerPoint, but who have had difficulty getting those programs to move, crop, and resize pictures. This workshop will cover how to insert images and layer objects, as well as how to create text boxes, arrows, and other items to build basic shapes into meaningful descriptive images.

Web Publishing is a three-hour course that covers the project skills needed to publish documents on the Web. Participants will see examples of design images, how to create a site map, and learn how to incorporate key elements of Web design. By the end of the class participants will understand how to create and maintain a site that is hosted by either the university or a Web service provider.

E-operations continues to offer a full roster of classes on university-supported software as well as customized training for individuals and departments. By using training resources here on campus, departments can save the cost of sending their staff to external programs. The e-operations training calendar can be accessed on the portal at my.american.edu by clicking the TRAINING link in the WORK @ AU section.
