SPA’s Karen O’Connor honored

The largest professional association in public administration has honored Karen O’Connor, School of Public Affairs, for her contributions to the advancement of women in public administration. O’Connor, above right, was awarded this year’s Joan Fiss Bishop Award from the American Society for Public Administration, which recognizes innovative leadership and a strong commitment to increasing involvement by women in the public sector. It was presented on Mar. 26 at the ASPA conference by former AU faculty member Claire Felbinger, chair of the Section for Women in Public Administration (SWPA), which gives the award. O’Connor, a widely published scholar, is the Jonathan N. Helfat Distinguished Professor of Government and director of the Women and Politics Institute. —SA
