| WAMU picks up popular WETA programming Coming on the heels of WETA-FM’s format switch to classical music, WAMU has again added new shows to its lineup, its second major programming shift in the past three months. Longtime public radio staple A Prairie Home Companion, can now be heard on 88.5-FM Saturdays from 6 to 8 p.m. “A Prairie Home Companion is one of public radio’s signature variety shows,” said Mark McDonald, WAMU’s senior director of programming. “When WETA decided not to air it anymore, we heard from a couple of hundred people who asked if we would put it on. The response was so overwhelming that we wanted to accommodate those listeners.” The station made a few additional changes, adding BBC news programs to the weekday lineup at 5 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Traditions with Mary Cliff Saturdays at 11 p.m. “I wanted very much to pick up the BBC,” McDonald said. “This is the most important city in the world, and the BBC has an international news gathering capacity that’s unrivaled.” Mary Cliff has been hosting Traditions for more than 30 years. McDonald said he thinks it will fit seamlessly into the Saturday night lineup between Hot Jazz Saturday Night and Bluegrass Overnight. For more information on the new shows, log on to wamu.org/
