Anderson lab has facelift

A rare closure of the library’s Anderson Computing Complex (ACC) between fall and spring semesters occurred for good reason—
renovations. Reopening on the first day of classes, Tuesday, Jan. 16, the suite of labs and offices has been repainted and recarpeted. Library leadership for the project was provided by Michele Mikkelsen and Kelvin Wilson with assistance from Kelly Keegan and Derek Atkins, from Facilities Management. The Anderson Computing Complex is the university’s 24-hour computing facility. Recent interim upgrades included the addition of a small break room where students can enjoy food and beverages. The Anderson labs are available for class use by faculty. To reserve a lab visit www.library.american.edu/acc.

Homeland Security is newest database offering

The library’s newest database is the Homeland Digital Security Library, which normally requires an individual to complete an application process to obtain a username and password. AU students, staff, and faculty may now access the database directly, however, through the ALADIN Web site. The database is described as “the nation’s premier collection of homeland security policy and strategy related documents.” Supported by the Naval Postgraduate School at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security in Monterey, Calif., the database contains policy documents, presidential directives, national strategy documents, and specialized resources, such as theses and research reports from universities, organizations, and local and state agencies. For additional information contact the Reference Desk at research@american.edu or at 202-885-3238.
