Book chronicles religious peacemakers
Representatives from the Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding shared stories of peacemakers from around the world last Tuesday, during an event sponsored by the School of International Service’s Peacebuilding and Development Institute.
Sheherazade Jafari and Heather duBois chronicled the experiences of 16 religious men and women who have put their lives on the line to bring peace to
people in such countries as Ethiopia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. The stories come from the Tanenbaum Center’s book, Peacemakers in Action: Profiles of Religion in Conflict Resolution, edited by David Little.
These peacemakers “have the trust and respect of their communities,” said Jafari. “Ultimately, they’re tapping into the beliefs and values of their local communities to bring about peace there.”
Tanenbaum is a New York City–based nonprofit that works in religiously diverse workplaces, schools, and areas of armed conflict.
