Students honored for academics, service

In a letter to the Marshall Fellowship selection committee, one of Johanna Teske’s physics professors dubbed her “the person most likely to become a leading scientist.”

The aspiring astronomer, who’s interned at NASA, is one of 17 students who will be lauded as winners of AU’s University Student Awards for Scholarship and Service and the Student Achievement Awards during the Honors Convocation, May 10.

A passionate environmental activist, Claire Roby will also be honored for her efforts to raise AU’s environmental consciousness, while Marc Tomik will be recognized for his service as the sole student member of the AU Board of Trustees.

Doctoral candidate Peter Roma—“the best [student] that the psychology department has ever had”—will also be recognized for his scholarship, which includes 17 articles, 12 of them as first author.
