LIBRARY
Wrap up spring semester and enjoy summer with the library
The library is hosting two events on Apr. 30—Literary Lunchtime and Final Perk.
Literary Lunchtime will feature Ariel Bernstein and Nickolas Boggs, two students from the MFA in Creative Writing Program, who will read from their works in progress at noon. Bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy in the Mud Box; lemonade and cookies will be provided by the library.
Final Perk, the library’s festive study break, will be green again this year. Weather permitting, the event will be held on the terrace in front of the library between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Cookies and beverages, including donations from Honest Tea, Vitamin Water, and Red Bull, will be available to fuel exam studies. Among the library’s campus partners are the Office of Campus Life, Residence Hall Association, Student Government Association, Graduate Leadership Council, Friends of the Library, and Megabytes Café.
Exhibits
The library’s current exhibit, The American Dream is Green, runs through May. Using photographs, books, DVDs, and other materials, including soft sculpture, the exhibit depicts campus and library engagement with environmentally friendly practices. The exhibit is interactive too; dry cell batteries can be recycled on site.
During the summer, a new library exhibit, presented in collaboration with the GLBTA Resource Center, will be mounted.
More summer notes
The library will sponsor parents’ receptions during orientations for new AU students.
Anyone planning to read the 2008 fall semester College Writing text, The Devil’s Highway: A True Story by Luis Alberto Urrea, can get a head start with the Web links here.
The Bender building and the Music Library in the Katzen Arts Center will be open for regular summer hours, and the library will provide instant messaging service from May 12 to Aug. 7. All schedules are available here.
