Math education is topic of SETH symposium

Math is one of the areas where urban students often fall behind. Last week, Improving Mathematics Education in Urban Schools was the topic of a symposium hosted by AU’s School of Education, Teaching and Health (SETH).

The symposium was part of SETH’s Alliance for Quality Urban Education (AQUE) program, which aims to improve the skills and knowledge of Washington, D.C., teachers and, ultimately, contribute to boosting the academic achievement of students.

The keynote presentation and dialogue featured Robert Moses, founder and president of the Algebra Project. Also sharing his remarks was Jason Kamras, special assistant to the chancellor of D.C. Public Schools, formerly a DCPS math teacher at Sousa Middle School and a National Teacher of the Year.
