Before he was a graduate of the Kogod School of Business, Arpit Trivedi was an entrepreneur.
In 2003, the Indian-born Trivedi founded Moksh Designs, an online company offering ethnic T-shirts featuring Sanskrit and Hindu symbols. Trivedi, who has created custom designs for such organizations as Asha for Education, an Indian advocacy group, says his company will soon expand to offer hats, purses, and mugs that celebrate South Asian culture.
“I handle all aspects of the company—the accounting, marketing, and production—so I’m getting a real-world business education,” he says. “But what I’ve learned at AU, in the classroom, is just as important. I’ve learned so much about the corporate side of things.”
A 22-year-old finance major, he credits Kogod professors Robert Sicina and Wendy Liu with helping him focus on his future career goals. “Guidance-wise, they’ve been great,” says Trivedi, who interned last year for a pharmaceutical company in India, where his parents still live. “I was able to shine at AU because of their help and because of financial aid.”
Trivedi hopes to work as a financial analyst at a consulting firm in New York, where he has family. And though he has his sights set on Wall Street, Trivedi says he’ll never be too busy for Moksh Designs.
“It’s my first business; that’s where it all started.”
