Partners in business, partners in life
BY ADRIENNE FRANK
Though Bill and Renay Regardie have started a number of real estate and publishing companies together, that’ s not their greatest collaboration.
In June 2005, the Regardies, who met in the lobby of Hughes Hall in June 1964, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. The couple, who graduated from the Kogod School of Business (then the School of Business Administration), credit AU with helping them discover their passion—both professionally and personally.
“The school gave me a great start in life,” says Renay, BSBA ‘64. “I was in the business school when not many women were. It opened great avenues for me and laid a foundation for my career. And, of course, I met my husband there!”
That’s why, says Bill, BS ’67, MBA ’68, “AU will always have a special place in our hearts.”
The couple’s business ventures include New Homes Guide, which they founded in 1975 and sold to the Washington Post in 1998, and Housing Data Reports, a tool for East Coast homebuilders, which they also sold in 1998. Renay, who recently started renovating homes, also runs Housing Strategies, a consulting company born out of Housing Data Reports.
“I like the marketing side and the sociological side of real estate,” says Renay. “I enjoy working to create communities and environments that help people realize their dreams.”
Bill, meanwhile, was the creative force behind Regardie’s, one of D.C.’s most popular business publications from 1979 to 2001. Bill, who received the business school’s Distinguished University Alumni Award in 1984, also launched several other magazines, including Regardie’s Power.
The Regardies, who live in Georgetown, have two sons.
